Landmark legislation passes in Australia around social media age changes
As landmark legislation passes in Australia around social media age changes, SmackTalk Founder Wayne Holdsworth has been interviewed nationally and internationally in the past 24 hours. This includes interviews withThe New York Times,CTV NewsChannel, Canada, and one of the largest Spanish language networks in the world,WRadio, which airs in 22 countries. Here’s a statement from Wayne… “A proud day for Australia today. The Bill to raise the age limit to 16 years of age for some social media was officially passed with bipartisan support last night. It is not a silver bullet nor is it the complete solution with education so critical, but it is a great start and the whole world is watching. I have spoken with media from New York, Canada and Spain in the past few hours and they are watching. Importantly I have presented to more than 400 secondary school children in the past two weeks between ages 12 and 17. After I have provided them with some examples of where kids their age have been terrorised on social media via extortion, bullying etc. Unprompted, 99% of them put their hand up to support the legislation. They see the need for support. All the advocacy and lobbying on my beautiful boy Mac’s behalf has all been worth it.”
